This week and last have been bittersweet around here. I've mentioned in passing a couple of times that we put our house on the market at the beginning of the summer -- we love our little home, but with a baby on the way, we think we'll outgrow it pretty quickly. The same builder we worked with in 2010 is developing a subdivision with his craftsman-style homes in nearby Watkinsville (about 15 minutes away from us now), so we decided to put things in motion to try and move out that way. We had a couple of bites on our house in the last two months, but both fell through -- the real estate game is so not my thing! We feel thankful that our house is in an area close to the university, making it attractive as a rental property. A nice mother and daughter came along two weeks ago and want to rent our house early August, so we're moving on -- quickly!
It was tricky to find an apartment that would lease to us for 6 months and let us move in two weeks -- with Athens being a college town, most complexes were totally full with 2 and 3 bedroom apartments.(Insert mini-meltdown here.) We stumbled across something that will be tight but will totally work. It was literally their last apartment available for August 1. Whew! Moving trucks have been another tricky element in the mix, but we finally found one at Budget. Uhaul was booked for a 30 miles radius! Ah, the joys of living in a college town. Thank goodness for my mother, who came up to stay with us for three days last week to help pack up our
junk stuff. James is working these two weeks, so having her here was amazing. She is the best.
Oh, and kitty B is totally unaware that we're going to be uprooting her later this week:
I'm looking forward to working with Jared again on our "forever" house. We'll have a bigger yard and a little more space to grow into. Pinterest didn't exist when we built our house 4 years ago, so using it to browse design options has been really fun. I can't wait to feel settled -- permanently. And with the little man in tow! December will be here before we know it. We are feeling super thankful these days.
We'll miss our first house and the memories we've made here. It's been real good to us. This new chapter is full of promise, though -- and I'm excited to see what the future has in store for us!
I'll be taking a week off from the blog to move, but you can always find me here in the meantime if you want to check in. I'm looking forward to sharing inspiration for the new house here soon!
Until then! -- Natty
