I received the best snail mail from a client yesterday afternoon, and I wanted to share. Recently I worked with a couple in Alabama on their save the dates; they are getting married at the Reid Chapel at Samford University in Birmingham, and they wanted me to draw a pen and ink portrait of the chapel that could be turned into a letterpress design. I drew the couples' chapel and laid out the text for the save the date, then sent the artwork over to Four Hats Press in Birmingham to turn the design into letterpress. Cory at FHP did such a lovely job with the printing! It was so sweet of the bride's mother to send me a copy. I don't always get to see the final design when I'm working with a team over the Web, so this really made my day!
I love letterpress and I'm eager to learn a little bit more about the process. I'm actually taking an 8-week night class starting this Thursday with my friend Margot at Smokey Road Press in town, and I am so excited! I hope to partner with Margot in the future on a few designs to sell in my shop. Maybe I'll finally get the nerve to dive into wedding invitation suites?! I need a little formal training first...and it will be so helpful to learn the ropes from someone who has been in the business for a really long time.
I hope you guys have a great Tuesday!
