New Month, New Things to Look Forward To

I've always been fond of the month of January. After December's hustle and bustle, January brings with it a slower pace. It's a time to reflect, but it's also a time to look to the future and the new year ahead.

A few things I'm focusing on this month:

Reserving time to create. Work is relatively slower for me at the beginning of the year, so I like to use the extra time to my advantage. You can find me with my notepad and watercolor pencils, brainstorming crazy ideas and creating new designs for future artwork and other goodies.

Consuming lots of soup. Cold weather means consuming copious amounts of soup at our house. Lately I am obsessed with tomato basil soup. Sometimes I splurge and eat a grilled cheese sammie with it, too.

Buying a new planner. There's something about a crisp, new spiral-bound planner that delights my inner neat freak. It's time to get organized -- might as well find something pretty to help you keep your dates straight.

Sitting beside a roaring fire. I love a good fire poppin' and cracklin' in the fireplace. There is nothing better this time of year. The Farmers Almanac says we'll be getting snow this winter in Georgia, and I hope it's right. Most of us southerners love getting snowed in since it only happens every 3 - 5 years.

Making a conscious effort to slow down. This month I'm getting in tune with my body and spirit. More yoga, less stress. I want to train myself to live more in the present -- putting the camera, the laptop and the iPhone down to really take in my surroundings and be at peace.

What are y'all looking forward to this month? I hope this month gives you time to rest post-holiday madness, and you have the chance to slow down a little more, too. Happy weekend! -- Natty
