Odds and ends 8/15/13

Happy Friday! How was your week? Mine was a bit busy, but I can't complain. I've been working on my projects for the Not Wedding event that's going to be taking place in Athens on September 12. I am so excited about it! The Not Wedding is a bridal show, but staged as an actual wedding with a real couple, short ceremony and an evening of dinner and dancing. Vendors like myself get to show off what we can do and be in our element at the same time. I'm a stationery vendor for the event, so I have to create an invitation suite and fan design that goes along with the wedding color and design scheme. I just finished my Athens map save-the-date card for the event, and I'm pretty psyched about it!

The "Not Couple" is actually a real newlywed couple, so I incorporated a little of their real-life love story into the map. Katie and Andrew actually tied the knot in Athens last year at the Taylor-Grady house in town. The Not Wedding is taking place at the Foundry Inn, so I included both venues on the save-the-date card. Other points of interest include Phi Kappa Hall, where Andrew proposed to Katie, the Melting Point, where they met, and Last Resort, the site of their first date.

Also, something that's still on my mind from this week: I caught wind of Jimmy Fallon's interview on "Today" with Savannah Guthrie Tuesday -- did any of you see it? The segment is mostly about his new baby, Winnie, (and how they chose her name! so sweet) -- but more importantly, Jimmy discusses how long he and his wife tried to bring a baby into the world. Hearing him talk so openly about years of sadness and disappointment definitely struck a chord with me. It may not seem very significant to someone who isn't dealing with baby-making issues, but to have someone in the public eye come out and be so candid about this hardship brought tears to my eyes. I appreciate his honesty so much. When he looked at the camera and encouraged those of us who are struggling to keep trying and not lose hope -- I had tears streaming down my face. He said that no matter how long you have to try -- keep at it, because in the end, you'll have the family you're meant to have, and it'll all be worth it. Wise words. Watch the clip and just try to tell me you don't just love him to pieces. Celebrity crush x a million.

Tomorrow is the first craft show I've participated in all summer -- the Indie South Fair's event at Max Canada downtown. I am crossing all of my fingers and toes for sunshine and lots of customers! I have lots of new goodies to share, and I can't wait to hear what people think about them. Also, this is the first craft show where I'll be offering y'all coupons! Even if you can't make it to the show, please check them out, because you can use a few discount codes online, too:

I hope to see you locals there!
