Mount Pleasant

One of our new favorite places in the Charleston area is the neighborhood of Mount Pleasant. We've been to Charleston several times in the past, but we've never ventured to this side of town -- and we were in love at first sight! The historic neighborhood dates back over 300 years, and every last home is a dream with a view. The small downtown area is like something out of a movie, complete with an old pharmacy and soda fountain, a bed and breakfast and restaurant -- The Post House, where we enjoyed a scrumptious dinner -- and a couple of cute boutiques.

Turn the corner and you'll find Patjens, a century-old post office. It has been carefully preserved by local citizens, and even though it was closed, my trusty iPhone took an awesome picture of the interior just by setting the lens up next to the window. Have you ever seen a cuter post office?

Last but not least, a little park is only a short distance away, where you can see Charleston's skyline over the water, and if you're lucky, a picturesque sunset and a few cranes in the marsh. What a perfect way to end our vacation! We heart you, Charleston. We'll see you again soon.

  2. Dear Natalie,

I loved reading your blog about my hometown, Mount Pleasant, SC. I live about a 15 minute walk from Patjens Post Office and I have never seen the inside! Thank you so much for sharing. I hope that you will visit again soon! Would you permit me to use your inside picture of Patjens in my blog and on my website?

If you would like some pictures that I have taken of the town, just let me know and I will send them to you!

    Best regards,
