James and I are loving the signs of spring around our house. The birds are chirping in the trees, the flowers are blooming -- my hydrangeas came back to life, hooray! ...But the pollen is everywhere. (One of these things is not like the other.) Besides the pollen, everything is so pretty, lush and green. It's exciting that we didn't kill anything too badly and it's all coming back! I always have big plans for our yard in my head, but then I remember I don't know the first thing about gardening and I give up. Hostas are my most favorite plants, and I'd love to plant some around our house. That's spring project #2. Buying two ferns was project #1.
I found two big, fluffy ferns yesterday at Cofer's and hung them all by myself on the front porch (the hooks are up pretty high, so hanging them required a small ladder and significant arm strength -- they are heavy!) My sad little ferns did horribly last year, so I'm hoping with the help of these suckers that they make it through the blistering heat of summer and get just the right amount of water they need. Any tips from those of you with green thumbs for planting flowers/watering ferns/good websites with gardening info? I can use all the help I can get!
