This weekend James and I drove to Knoxville, Tennessee to stay with our friends (in their cute-as-can-be little house) to go to the Georgia vs. Tennessee football game on Saturday. We enjoyed the fire pit at night, checked out a local bar with some adorable but unusual customers, and tailgated by the river all day Saturday -- enjoying tailgate fare ranging from homemade marshmallows to Ms. Mary's homemade pimento cheese sandwiches. It was tailgate heaven (even though there was a little too much orange surrounding me for my liking!)
We went to the game, and we won. Winning a game when you're sitting in a sea of fans cheering for the opposite team can be a challenge (some people take their college football a little too seriously) -- but we had a good time.
Plus, I finally got to drive through the Great Smoky Mountain Expressway -- and it was everything I thought it would be and more this time of year. The leaves are changing colors, the hazy mountains in the distance were so pretty -- almost a shade of purple -- and we passed several lovely old buildings along the way...including this barn. The drive got me really excited for our road trip -- t-minus 5 days and counting! I can't wait -- it is going to be a crazy road trip adventure.
