Mad Men Obsessions

One of my favorite pastimes is reading pundits' recaps and synopses the day following a Mad Men episode premiere. (I used to obsessively do this when The Sopranos was airing on tv, too). I can't help it - the writing is just amazing. I never tire of reading what other people took away from the show, arguing the answers to "What does it all mean?!" So, I probably don't have to tell you that last night's beginning to the new season of Mad Men has me completely titillated; it was everything I wanted and more. Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce has taken over two floors of the Time Life building in NYC in a visually stunning office space (did anyone notice the Eames chairs that my friend's clever husband, "Mr. Cheese," pointed out? They were specifically designed for the Time Life building in the 60s. These are the details of the show that get me ridiculously excited).

My drooling over the new office aside, there is a new, young, (obnoxious?) Betty-esque love interest in Don's life, Sally Draper has grown up a little and the lisp is gone (!), Joan has her own office, Peggy has a cute new 'do, and Don apparently likes to be slapped. Hard. (That's all I'm going to say about that). I love it all, and I can hardly wait to see how the rest of the season pans out.

Who writes your favorite recap on the web? Here are my top 3:

  1. oh I love this comment about eyeglasses from the Best Week Ever blog- "Roger Sterling and Lane Pryce in a not-so-secret hipster contest." Thanks for pointing it out!

My fave was NPR Fresh Air's interview with Matthew Weiner...worth listening to :)
